Saren Arterius

"Goodbye Shepard, thank you." - Saren Arterius

My second piece to my Mass Effect series of paintings this time featuring Saren Arterius, one of the main antagonist in Mass Effect. It should be no surprise that he would be included and that he would be on my list of top five favorite characters (not just in Mass Effect, but any medium). Saren story is one of sorrow, betrayal and downfall. Saren is known through out the galaxy for being the Council's number one Spectre and for being ruthless and efficient in his completion of missions. Before his more violent nature blossomed, Saren was quite subtle, but the death of his brother left him scared and leaving a hatred for humans. This eventually left him to falling under the control of the Reapers and ultimately his death. Players felt a bond with Saren and a greater sense of sadness that he eventually becomes a prisoner in his own mind.

Bioware, you captured my heart with Mass Effect.

Love,

O.N.P.W

It's always for the best when so-called villain is ambiguous; there is no black or white, only shades of grey, no clear definitions of good and evil.

As for the art, it captures the essence of Saren, but I kinda feel it's too... polished! I have come to expect a bit more rough look from you, and that roughness, a sense of impulsiveness, gives art more weight and makes it more honest. Or indeed, ambiguous, if you will.

Other than that, a fine piece, sir.

Saren is all about the gray areas.

Haha, well that's an interesting remark, I felt that the pieces of Saren that aren't covered in darkness in this piece (similar to the Shadow Broker) needed to stick out and needed to be clean and precise. There isn't much I needed to work with, just using the dark areas in contrast with the light.

Thank you, and I'll keep this in mind for my next piece which should certainly be the way you had described. It should be more chaotic which I'm probably more famous for my work being.
